Rustic Stockings

Last year I made these stockings for our family. I wanted something that matched, and that has a hand-made look to it. I let Denton pick out some of the buttons that I stitched onto the cuff.

I did embroider them (by hand) before I sewed the whole stocking together. It made it a lot easier to handle. I picked a homespun fabric. Thay way I can add more later if I need and not worry about finding a particular print.

Turkey

So this really should be called Handy Granny. Because my mom is the one that made this.
The body is made out of 2 inch thick pine. The legs are dowels and the feet and feathers are out of 1 inch barn wood. The beak is 3/4 inch wood. And on the back, you can't see, is an upside down heart for the tail . Almost the same size as the turkey body.

So there you go, if you want to make you own.

Halloween Paintings

For Halloween at my mom's I did these paintings to hang on the fence. I did 14 all together. They turned out pretty spooky.

This cat was my favorite. Not that it reflects my own feelings towards cats. Ha ha. I named it Mary Ann, after my crazy cat lady friend.

New Sand

Did I mention that I have this obsession with building things? Well I do, it's a sickness of mine.
I got so tired of the bugs and grass surrounding the sandbox, I had to get it off the ground. So I built this little play deck. And my kids like to climb on things, so this is a great new toy. It's mobile too, so I can move it to mow the lawn. Although with the new sandI put in it, it might be a little too heavy to do by myself. It's 4'x8' and 23" off the ground. We will see over time how well it does with the spiders and ants. And beatles and grasshoppers and crickets and moths and.....

Super Hero

I made this cape for my nephew's third birthday. I had Denton wear it for pictures. My nephew always wears a cape. All the time...his lucky mom. This one is reversible so he can switch from the red spiderman to the black one.
I could not find a super hero logo anywhere. So I just stitched this one on made of felt.

Erichment Night Results

This was a perfect craft to do in 30 minutes. We had about 20 ladies participating all at once. I had set out all their stuff ahead of time; wooden block, paper plate, wax paper, disposable foam brush, and 3 different paints at each table. That way they didn't have to get up and move until the end when they wanted to pick out a letter and put the ribbon on. I also brought a hair dyer to speed up the drying process. And the clean up was s simple, everything was disposable. They all finished in 30 minutes.

Enrichment Night

This thursday our RS is doing a "back to school" theme for enrichment night. I am teaching the art class. And this is our 30 minute craft. Pretty cute and simple.

We are suppose to dress like we did in high school. Hmmmmm! I think I dress the same, my style stopped way back then. It should be a fun night.

Office shelves.

I just finished these office shelves for Dan's army buddy. I was pretty happy about the way they turned out. I also did a printer table to match. It looks like a simple design, but each section is indiviually screwed onto brackets on the wall. It took me a couple hours to complete the install. He and his wife were also pretty happy with it.

Craft Club

Shabby Chic? or just shabby.

Guess who volunteered themselves to head up the new craft club for our ward? Hmmmm... that's a tough one, I am going to have to think about it.

So here is our first project. (I say "our" hoping others will sign up.) I think it is simple enough for a beginner and it can be finished in one night. And it will only cost around $7.

Just click on the picture to make it bigger. But not too big, you don't want to see my oopsies. The paper is decoupaged on there, and obviously you would pick out your own pattern. I though it would be great for holidays too, Halloween paper or Christmas. (Because we all need more holiday decorations right?)

So to all you out there, do you think this is a good project? I need honest feed back since I will be doing this for other ladies in the ward.

Nursing Apron

With all the new babies in the family. I thought I would sew some nursing aprons. It was really easy to do. Two pieces of fabric sewn together with a strap to go around your neck. I love the pink and brown combination. My sister doesn't even know I finished this for her, so she will be surprised to see it on my blog. Hopefully I can get it in the mail by tomorrow. So, Erica, watch for it!

Owen's Lodge

I have been working on Owen's room for a couple weeks. I started painting last fall, then didn't work on it again until last week. I still have a little ways to go. But I am so excited about it so far, I wanted to show my family what I have done. I painted this just this afternoon. It was probably the easiest wood project. I painted with regular craft paint. Then I sprayed the painted part with a clear coat. Then I took a dark stain and rubbed over the top. I am planning on haning it up on the wall.
This is a picture of the bottom part of the curtain. And one of the wagon wheels I had outisde on my front porch. I lined the back of the curtian with black fabric so it will block out light during the day. Good for naps. Here is the reading bench. I am really happy about it. I put hinges on the seat so it will create a wee bit of storage under the seat. Maybe for books. I like the way the dark wood contrasts with the unfinished. It gives it a more rustic look. Those are the pillows I sewed today and Denton helped me stuff them. The shingles are that black craft foam, I just hot glued them down.
These two trees are my favorite. I really like them better than the rest. I started by painting the base coat a light blue grey. Then I taped off where I wanted my trees and painted them black. After the black dried I dry brushed a white paint to make the bark. Then added limbs. I was going for a wintery feel, that is why they don't have leaves. And it just looks a little cleaner.
Here is a wider view of the trees and bench. I did not sew the pillow with stars on it. I bought that a few years ago and it matches pretty well.
An up-close view of the throw pillows. I was so excited to find this big rick rack at Hobby Lobby. And I discovered the smaller rick rack made out of jute. Pretty cool.
A long look at the curtain. I cut the valance out of MDF and painted black. Then I attached the curtain to a dowel and screwed it to the sides of the valance.
Look I found a place for those fish I bought at Quilted Bear.
Here is the roof top. And this is what it must look like from Owen's point of view.

Wind Sock

Last year we made patriotic wind socks out of soda bottles. We got the idea out of a magazine. So this time I thought I would use some scrapbook paper and empty formula cans.

The colors remind me of when I was little. I love them.

Denton calls it an octopus.

Garden Project

You probably thought that I was going to post my first tomatoes of the year. This is the garden bridge I have been working on. Since it was my first attempt, there are a few flaws with it. It has been a learning experience. Over all, I am happy with it. I just need to dig a stream for it to lay across.

Coming Soon

Since I am a bit of a perfectionist, hopefully something I create will be blog worthy. Right now I am working on a garden project......We'll see.
